Arslan Elver Guest Lecturer
We had another excellent lecture this week by Arslan Elver, an animation supervisor for Framestore. He was so enthusiastic and engaging, alongside being so talented and passionate. Which sometimes is difficult to find in guest lecturers. We were shown lots of breakdowns, and talked through the development process for Guardians of the galaxy 2, particularly baby groot and rocket. The opening sequence, which was incredible was also really well explained.
My main take-aways from the lecture
- Anchor your design in real life for people to believe
-You are there to execute the directors vision
-Characters interacting w/ the environment is key for believing
-How you are supervised is key. If a person is motivated they will produce nice work eventually.
-For a 3D animation showreel for a junior, 1 minute of really good body mechanics, spacing and posing. Quadrupeds are hard. If it's not great don't put it in, good performance stuff, simple and natural. Well observed. Essence needs to be good. A different idea, well observed. Well executed.
